TRANSSETTLE - a new way of living

   Transsettle
is trying to keep up with time in a reality where all the temporary situations of living and non-living things in the Konya-Karapınar region are included, with current settlements dissolved in space, but at the same time, some parts are clustering and breaking apart. What these empty and disconnected spaces mean for life is an important question for the project. This project actually proposes a different perspective by re-examining the lifestyles of these people, who at first glance seem to be in the middle of nowhere.

One of the important and perhaps most dominant characteristics of this region is the movement of the sinkholes and the appearance of their layers, which tells the story of time. The shifting of the topography under our feet and the gradual retreat of water clearly show how fast transformation occurs here when we look at nature. Additionally, the nomadic situations in this region, the plateau culture, and the temporariness and temporality it creates include conditions where the mentioned temporalities are not linear or cyclical, which is out of the ordinary. This region, which is also a difficult living area in terms of environmental conditions apart from humans, is also addressed in this project in this aspect. The phenomenon called dead nature causes new, unfamiliar spaces to emerge. In this complex and intertwined spatial pattern, new potential relationships are also evaluated, and the existing spatialities are questioned.

In the current situation, by taking the pattern of the walls as a starting point, I have brought a proposal for a life intertwined with all the concepts, lifestyles, and environmental effects mentioned above for the people living in this region, all living beings, and non-living beings.

____ plans

While imagining life in the lower 2 levels of this settlement, the starting point was mostly based on animals. With a fluid ramp connecting these 2 levels, the access began to leave its mark and tried to connect better with the context.

These resulting gaps, covers and scattered borders became the main elements that define the spaces.

the need for rapid settlement within the temporality of this place requires a material and technology that will allow this temporality

with the influence of the materials and technology of the walls, this behavior has created a characteristic narrative in the pattern of the walls.

          pattern of  walls

This part, which forms the main body of the building, is actually the part where all life takes place. The intertwined living situation that has been set out from the beginning can be easily observed here.

A way of life that is contrary to the current settlement habits and order in the region, where all living and non-living elements live together.

With the benefits of topography, this life continues at the upper elevations. Although the connection between these three levels is preserved, the ramp is again the main hero.

The units that exist with their own structure on the upper level, independent of the topography, and that diversify and differentiate from each other, actually refer to the temporality here and respond to the needs here over time.

____ sections

The borders of this pattern, created based on frames (folds), express themselves well in the sections. The variability of wall heights are also one of the important parameters and creates differences in light and shadow.

This situation actually affects the perception of those who live and will live there due to the shadow's effect on the definition of space and time. At the same time, in such a place where temporality is constantly changing, walls enable this time to become more defined through the events that take place.

In these sections, it becomes easier to understand how it interacts with the topography and the ground. This structure, which backs onto the sinkhole, also communicates with the road.

When we look at the structure specifically, although there are clusters, that is, accumulations in some places in the sections, there are also more dissolved situations in some places. This situation is also physicalized based on the ground.  This inference was made considering the location, behavior and character of the sinkholes.
